Harper’s Bazaar Royal Babywatch Blog

Tuesday, March 5th, 2013

We received a fabulous mention in Harper’s Royal Babywatch Blog: week 15.

We are very flattered that Harper’s chose our Josephine Dress for Kate’s red carpet maternity look- it is one of our favourites as well.

The New Velvet

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

This Autumn/Winter velvet popped up on the catwalks of designers such as Dolce & Gabanna, Gucci, Bottega Venetta and Etro. The new interpretations are cool and modern and nothing like the party dresses from our childhood days.

This season we have played into this trend with our velvet jacquard  Cosima Coat which is our luxe twist on a classic swing coat with adjustable belt loops for maternity, pre and post-pregnancy wearability.

Accessorised below with Zurich handbag from Milli Millu, satin-toed Giambattista Valli velvet loafers and worn with our Gigi Capris

Gold Rush

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

It is looking like it is going to be a very bling holiday season.  Gold and sparkle is another big statement this season and it is everywhere from the High Street to the high end designer boutiques and worn from day to night.

If head-to-toe gold is not your thing, play into it with gorgeous accessories.  Glam up a chic, simple little black dress (like our Lucia Dress, pictured below with gold python Milli Millu Parisian Clutch) with a bold necklace or cuff, or gold embellished shoes.  Grab a luxe evening bag and shine on!

We hope you have a fabulous Holiday season!  Love from Team VK X

Sparkling Touches

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

Hair accessories have definitely made a comeback, and this season it is grown up, sophisticated and luxe.  We are loving this trend and how pretty hair jewellery adds a festive feminine accent to a flirty bob or a swept back pony tail or bun.  Everything from the preppy hair clip, to the oversized kirby grip to jewelled headbands and combs were on the catwalks.  Here are some highlights:

1. At Rodarte, star cluster hair clips adorned tousled bobs

2. Wide burnt orange, wire edged taffeta ribbons at Giles

3. Swarovski crystal hair clip from Dolce & Gabbana

4. Opulent pearl and jewelled headbands on sleek centre partings at Dolce & Gabanna

5. Valentino Rockstud Leather Headband

6. More hair jewellery from the Dolce & Gabanna A/W show

7. Eugenia Kim Sequin Silk-Satin Headband

8. Dolce & Gabanna Swarovski Crystal and Faux Pearl Hair Slide

The Hat is Back

Monday, November 19th, 2012

The Hat is making such a strong fashion statement this season, thanks to the likes of fashion icons like Kate, the extraordinary Isabella Blow (picture below at far right) and even Lady Gaga.

We are just loving this trend as it just exudes femininity and class and it is yet another beautiful way to take daywear into evening into special occasion dressing. To complete the look, simply add a lick of liquid eyeliner, long leather gloves and some attitude.

1. Awon Golding Leather Disc Hat worn with the chic VK Lola Dress

2. Snakeskin Swirl Hat by Awon Golding (a name to watch)

3. Add a pair of long leather gloves to complete the look.  These season they come in every variation from sleek basic to fur trimmed and beaded.

4. Take the lead from Kate, The Dutchess of Cambridge and Royal fashion icon

5. A divine creation from Milliner Extraordinaire, Philip Treacy

6. Take inspiration from fabulous 50′s and 60′s fashion shots and play up eyes and lips for full-on (and easy to achieve) glamour.

7. Go for feminine drama and wear a veiled hat or head piece to a winter wedding.

8.  Another gorgeous Philip Treacy creation.  Another way to achieve an original feminine fashion statement pop into to a haberdashery shop and pick up an oversized silk flower, attache to a combe or headband and use it to accent an upswept hair do.  For extra drama, add some netting and feathers, even a jewelled brooch…

New Old Glamour

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012

At VK we are loving the new movement towards the new nostalgia that Avril Groom recently wrote about in the FT’s How to Spend It.  This new wave is attracting a new generation of young supporters who want to look grown up and glamorous, taking the lead from the Royal Family – mainly The Duchess of Cambridge, who has become a fashion role model with her elegant statement look and is reviving this trend for dressing up.

With this new, old world glamour we see accessories like fur stoles, shrugs, millinery and long gloves in leather or jersey making a comeback and we love the elegant touch they can add to a chic, simple black dress, like Lola, as worn by our model Chloe below.

The Veronique Dress

Monday, October 29th, 2012

Here at VK we love beautiful versatility because life is so busy, clothes just have to multi-task as well as we do and keep up with all the many aspects of our lives.  We also love how a chic, well cut dress can go a long way.  One dress that illustrates this beautifully is our Veronique dress, pictured here in Indigo.

By evening, it is sexy and elegant paired with dramatic crystal drop earrings, a sparkly statement shoe and tousled hair.  By day sweep hair up in a messy ponytail, change the heels for a pair of high boots and a slouchy bag and you have a pulled together look for a day out shopping in town or lunch with the girls.

Tough Luxe vs Evening Chic

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012

We had a little styling session in our studio the other day creating different looks with our favourite VK pieces.

Here is Look No. 1 – Chloe sporting our semi sheer Bella Skirt and Erica Bandeau with a glam biker vibe, accessorised with Fiorentini + Baker boots and Leather biker jacket . Sheer is still a hot trend for Autumn/Winter and one we Love Love Love – just winterize with a pair of opaque tights or leggings.  It is also great way to lighten up and all black look.

I love this feminine look with a cool, city edge.

Look No. 2  - Chloe is wearing the same 2 Vanessa Knox pieces but with leather jacket and biker boots replaced with a fabulous statement necklace and sexy strappy heels.  Simple, sexy and chic.

It’s all about beautiful multi-functionality here at VK.

Dressing Stylish from Head to Toes

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

This week, we have joined forces with Bespoke luxury shoe label, Upper Street to bring you our guide for head-to-toe pregnancy style.  Together we have combined some fabulous shoe designs from the Upper Street shoe collection to work around some of our favourite VK looks.

The beauty of Upper Street is that you can create your own unique shoe designs drawing from their myriad of fabrics, skins, colours, heels, silhouettes- You must check out their site- it is HEAVEN.

In addition to contributing the gorgeous footwear, Upper Street have offered some very useful advice for choosing the right shoes (while of course, remaining stylish and feeling gorgeous) during pregnancy.

As any woman who has experienced pregnancy will know the effect it has on your body can range from the minor inconveniences to the major discomforts. One key point is to make sure that you feel your very best throughout – maintaining your sense of style helps retain a sense of self as you embark on the journey to motherhood.  Just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean that it’s time to reach for those “practical” shoes!

It is important to look and feel your best but it is equally important to look after your feet, especially during pregnancy– some women experience an increase in the size of their feet so the decision to wear heels or not is a very personal one. If you choose to forgo heels for a few months, you don’t need to sacrifice style.  Try a ballet slipper in a pop colour or Leopard print, which is a perennial favourite.  This classic ballet flat with metallic leather bow and counter back makes a for a chic alternative to a heel.

In the maternity wear department- Avoid compromising style by choosing a few good key pieces that will take you through your pregnancy and beyond. The Colette portrait neck maternity top in soft jersey is both feminine, flattering and extremely versatile  – wear with Gigi Capri or Alexis maternity trousers and your Upper Street ballet flats!

We love a nude heel. It is always a versatile shoe to have at your disposal and a nude heel will also elongate the leg (which is always a good thing!).  These nude patent platform courts are a justifiable, feel-good investment as not only will they go with your entire maternity wardrobe but you can wear them post pregnancy too.  A  3.5″ heel and 0.25″platform may be more comfortable during the later stages of pregnancy.  Upper Street also have a lower heeled option (just chose at checkout stage).

We have paired these nude court shoes with our Floria dress, which is a faux wrap design that gently swathes your bump to create a sleek and sexy silhouette and is the perfect dress to take you from the office on to the evening. We love the nude heels worn with the rich teal shade of the dress – perfect for this season and beyond.

Being pregnant doesn’t have to mean being mumsy – hang on to your inner rock chic with these cobalt suede ballet flats with their subtle sprinkling of stud embellishment. Perfect for a weekend lunch with the girls or dressing down your office look.

As well as looking fabulous with heels, we think the Lucia body con dress would work really well with these cobalt ballet flats. The flattering scoop neck and peek-a-boo shoulder detail lift this dress out of the ordinary and it’s sure to become a go to piece throughout your pregnancy and beyond.

The 3” heel on these natural snakeskin peep toes provide a comfortable height and with a smart silver buckle, this shoe design would provide the perfect finishing touch for so many outfits. For a more playful feel, design your mid-heel shoes with a bow or add a contrasting counter back.  There are so many possibilities.

At VK, we are also big fans of customised and multi-functional pieces, that’s why we love the Hallie dress, with soft jersey swathes that can be worn draped open, tied or wrapped to suit your mood or occassion – a truly versatile piece to help boost your maternity wardrobe and make you look and feel great.

We think these four looks with their clean lines and fabulous footwear would cover so many occasions. Give some thought to your normal routine and daily activities then plan what you’re going to invest in – this way you’ll get the most mileage from all the key pieces in your maternity wardrobe.

We hope you love our new AW 2012 Collection as much as we enjoyed designing it!
